Brazilians have already wagered more than US$6.9 billion in 2023

The amount sent by Brazilians to foreign betting sites in 2023 has already exceeded R$ 6.9 billion, equivalent to R$ 33.5 billion using the dollar exchange rate of this Wednesday (20), according to a survey by the Aposta Legal website.

The data comes from the Central Bank’s payment balance for the period between January and July of this year. The figure represents a growth of more than 13 times compared to the US$489 million wagered in the first seven months of last year.

Out of the total amount wagered this year, US$1.5 billion was related to remuneration paid to betting houses located outside the country.

During the same period, Brazil received US$5 billion in remittances, which included prizes for winning bets.

According to experts, the movement around the regulation of the Brazilian betting market and the increased advertising on the subject have encouraged a higher volume of investments. Numbers show significant potential for revenue through taxation.
